On August 21, 2019, the Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji, directed the arraignment of Tabitha Mukami Muigai and Joseph Karanja Muigai, the directors of Keroche Breweries, in connection with tax fraud allegations.

The move followed an inquiry submitted by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to the DPP's office, accusing Keroche Breweries Limited of evading Excise Duty and Value Added Tax on various products manufactured and sold between January 2015 and June 2019.

According to a press statement from the DPP, he had independently reviewed the file and was satisfied that there was sufficient evidence to charge the suspects with 10 counts of tax fraud.

The DPP ordered the arraignment after determining that the parties were involved in tax fraud worth KSh14.5 billion.
