Published on August 21, 2019, Twitter has agreed to meet with Manchester United representatives within the next few weeks to discuss the racist abuse aimed at Paul Pogba following Monday night's game with Wolves.
Manchester United players Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford have backed Pogba, calling on Twitter to take action against the culprits. The Greater Manchester Police have stated that no formal investigation has been launched into the abuse directed at Pogba, as there has been no specific complaint made to them from the public.
Twitter has expressed its commitment to addressing online racist abuse, stating, "We have always maintained an open and healthy dialogue with our partners in this space, but we know we need to do more to protect our users. Racist behaviour has no place on our platform and we strongly condemn it."
Manchester United is also seeking a more collaborative approach from teams, football associations, and the Premier League to tackle the issue of online racist abuse.
Twitter's meeting with Manchester United comes after the platform agreed to discuss racist abuse with football anti-discrimination group Kick It Out for the first time following the abuse received by Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.
