On August 21, 2019, Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha announced a ban on non-academic activities in schools during third term to prevent exam malpractices.
Building on measures introduced by former Education CS Dr Fred Matiang'i in 2016, Professor Magoha reinforced the need to curb cheating in exams.
Speaking after inspecting a teacher training session at Machakos School for the Physically Disabled, Professor Magoha warned school heads against aiding examination cheating and stated that he was aware of attempts by some principals to breach examination rules.
He also cautioned candidates and teachers against engaging in activities that might amount to examination malpractice.
Professor Magoha announced that November would be an examination month, with primary and secondary schools closing on October 28. The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams would take place from November 1st to 3rd, while the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams would run from November 7th to November 30th.
