On August 21, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta flagged off the Tong-il Moo-Do Kenya national team at State House, Nairobi, ahead of their participation in the 2019 Chungju World Martial Arts Mastership in South Korea.
During the event, the President received an 8th-degree honorary Black Belt award from the World Tong-Il Moo-Doo Federation in recognition of his continuous support and commitment to the sport.
President Kenyatta also received the national flag and trophies from the national men's basketball team, the Morans, and the national women's volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, who had recently competed in international tournaments.
The President reassured the country that the government has allocated adequate funds to cater for the welfare of teams representing the country at international tournaments.
He emphasized the importance of accountability in the management of sports funds, stating that mismanagement would not be tolerated.
President Kenyatta commended the national basketball and volleyball teams for their sterling performance in the recent championships, saying they have put Kenya on the global map in sports that it was not traditionally known for.
