Published on August 21, 2019, Kenya's bid for a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) non-permanent seat for the 2021-2022 term has received a significant boost after the Africa Group endorsed the country's candidature.
Kenya secured 37 votes against Djibouti's 13 during a session by the 54-member regional group in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The endorsement came after a second round of voting by the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC), which is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Africa Group comprises all 54 African Union member States, accounting for 28 per cent of UN membership.
Kenya's candidature will now be considered by the UN General Assembly for the non-permanent seat in the powerful UN organ.
