Kenya is set to conduct its national census on August 24 and 25, 2019, a paperless process that aims to utilize technology for a complete count of all citizens.

As part of the preparations, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has ordered the closure of all bars countrywide for two days starting Saturday.

Speaking at Embu Stadium during the official opening of the 10th edition of the Water Services Companies Games, CS Matiang'i explained that the closure is to ensure enumerators can find residents at home.

"We are going to close all our social places especially the bars at 5pm to give you an hour to be home before the enumerators arrive at 6pm so that they can find you at home," he said.

CS Matiang'i assured Kenyans that security will be beefed up, with all security personnel recalled from leave to ensure the exercise is carried out effectively.

He also warned against unauthorized monitoring of the census exercise, stating that foreign agencies and individuals had been vetted for approval.

August 24 and 25, 2019, are the scheduled dates for the census exercise.
