Philemon Otieno, a Harambee Stars defender and Gor Mahia player, has been dealt an injury blow after sustaining a cruciate-ligament injury during a CHAN qualifier clash against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam in July.

According to a statement from Gor Mahia, Otieno will be out of active football for close to three months due to the injury.

The Football Kenya Federation has confirmed that it will cater for Otieno's medical bill, as he is set to travel to France for surgery.

He will become the second Harambee Stars player to undergo treatment in France, following in the footsteps of Brian Mandela.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia is set to host Burundian side Aigle Noir in the second leg of the Caf Champions League preliminary round on Sunday, August 25.

The first round of the encounter played in Bujumbura ended in a barren draw.
