On Wednesday, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) kicked off the preseason tournament at GEMS Cambridge International School with a 4-2 win over Mathare United.

The four participating teams in the tournament, which will conclude on Saturday, are Mathare United, AFC Leopards, KCB, and hosts Wazito.

Brian Ochieng scored the first goal for KCB, but Mathare United drew level through an own goal by Dennis Ng'ang'a, who turned Kevin Kimani's cross into his own net.

Second-half goals from Stephen Waruru, Ian Motanda, and Samuel Mwangi gave KCB a 4-1 lead, before Kevin Kimani scored a consolation for Mathare United in stoppage time.

Wazito Sporting Director Solomon Alubala stated that the tournament would help coaches assess their teams' progress ahead of the 2019/20 season, which begins on August 30.

"The league starts in a week, and this tournament is meant to measure our progress against the same teams we will face during the season," Alubala said in an interview with Nation Sport.

The participating teams will play each other in a round-robin format, with the following matches scheduled:

  • Wazito FC vs. Mathare United – 9am
  • AFC Leopards vs. KCB – 11am
  • AFC Leopards vs. Mathare United – 11am
