Kenyan boxers Evelyn Akinyi and Edwin Okongo are set to punch off in the 12th edition of the African Games in Rabat, Morocco, on August 21, 2019. The tournament is being held at the Al Amal Indoor Sports Centre.
Akinyi, from Kisumu County, will be the first Kenyan to enter the ring at 4pm Kenyan time, facing off against Moulahi Khouloud of Tunisia in the women's lightweight category (60kg).
Okongo will then enter the ring to face Zambia's Kaonga Mbachi in the men's light heavyweight (85kg) bout scheduled for 6pm Kenyan time, with a total of 26 bouts scheduled for the day.
Other Kenyan boxers have also secured byes to the quarter finals, including 2015 African Games bronze medalist Elly Ajowi in the heavyweight (91kg) category, and Boniface Mogunde in the welterweight (69kg) category.
Kenya's team, known as the 'Hit Squad', consists of 12 boxers, eight men and four women, competing in this year's tournament.
