On August 9, 2019, the Crowne Plaza hosted the first awards gala of the Fini Awards 2019, a prestigious event that recognizes and celebrates exemplary players making great contributions towards the growth and development of Kenya by easing financial accessibility.

Among the winners was Kenyan fintech firm Apptivate Africa, which took home the Best Digital Feeding programme award for its innovative meal app M-Kula.

Apptivate Africa's Corporate Relations Manager, Irene Kioko, dedicated the award to more than 300 food joints signed up on M-Kula in Kenya, clients, and food lovers in the region.

"We have always taken a user-focused approach in building disruptive solutions for Africa. It was great to see our efforts recognized at such a prestigious stage," Kioko said.

M-Kula is a digital solution that enables employers to feed their teams without having to set up a canteen or deal with an outsourced caterer. The app uses digital vouchers, making employee feeding transparent and efficient by ensuring that employees have money for lunch throughout the month and that they use their lunch money specifically for food.

Apptivate Africa, formerly known as Sodexo Kenya, rebranded to Apptivate Africa in 2018 following a test run of its products. The company also runs M-Tuza, a multi-store digital voucher.

Calvin Jodisi, the head of Fini Awards 2019, hailed M-Kula for simplifying food uptake at workplaces, saving time, promoting quality, improving work productivity, enhancing accountability, and cutting costs.
