Published on August 21, 2019, a lawsuit filed by Kathryn Mayorga against Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that the Juventus star paid her €375,000 (approximately Ksh 38 million) to settle allegations of rape in 2009.

The payment was made to maintain the confidentiality of their dispute, according to Ronaldo's lawyers. However, Mayorga's legal team has refiled the lawsuit in federal court, seeking to invalidate the settlement and claiming that Ronaldo took advantage of her fragile emotional state after the alleged incident.

Las Vegas prosecutors initially decided not to file criminal charges against Ronaldo, citing a lack of evidence to prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt. Ronaldo's lawyers have maintained that the pair had consensual sex on June 13, 2009, and have accused Mayorga of attempting to extort the Portuguese footballer.

US District Judge Jennifer Dorsey rejected Ronaldo's claim that releasing court records would harm his reputation and endorsements, stating, 'The cat is already out of the bag about Mayorga's allegations and the settlement.' The judge ruled that the documents and direct quotes from them would remain sealed.
