Former Kitutu East MP Abuya Abuya has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant Kibra Constituency parliamentary seat, which fell vacant following the death of the area legislator Ken Okoth on July 26, 2019.

Abuya, a former member of the Electoral Commission of Kenya and a life member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), said he will contest for the party ticket in the November by-election.

"I am ready to contest with other individuals eyeing the parliamentary seat in ODM. I am a life member of the party and I am ready to contest for the party ticket," Abuya told the Nation on phone on Wednesday.

Abuya, who has lived in Kibra for 24 hours and has a residence there, believes he has what it takes to be the next Kibra legislator, citing his experience as a former organizing secretary of the original Ford Kenya.

The by-election is set to take place on November 7, 2019, with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announcing the date on Monday.
