The Kenya Police Service has taken steps to ensure security during the upcoming national census, recalling all police officers on leave to duty.

According to a letter dated August 20, 2019, from the office of the Deputy Inspector General at Vigilance House in Nairobi, officers on leave have been ordered to resume work not later than Thursday, August 22, 2019.

As the government has assured Kenyans of their security during the census, the police service is taking no chances, with the national census set to begin on Saturday, August 24.

The census will take a week, ending on August 31, and will involve counting all persons within the borders of Kenya, including outdoor sleepers, persons on transit, individuals in hotels and lodges, and institutions such as hospitals and prisons.

Some counties have already announced plans to close businesses, including bars, to ensure all people within their areas are counted.
