On August 21, 2019, musician Joan Cherono, popularly known as Sweet Lady, lost her life in a tragic incident in Bomet town.
According to reports, Cherono had a quarrel with her boyfriend, a prison warder at Bomet GK prison, in their home in Kamukunji estate. The two had long-standing differences and frequently fought, as confirmed by their neighbors.
The boyfriend is currently being held at Bomet Police Station, and an investigation into the incident has been launched by Bomet Central sub-county police commander Musa Omari.
Cherono's father, Joseph Mosonik, expressed his desire for swift investigations, stating that his daughter was one of the family's breadwinners and her death was a significant blow to the family.
"It's a blow even to her siblings who are still in school," Mosonik said, adding that the family was not aware of their daughter's relationship with the suspect.
"If they were cohabiting with my daughter we were not aware as a family and that does not justify the murder," Mosonik said, demanding stern action against the suspect.
Kalenjin musicians have condoled the family and called for a speedy investigation into the matter.
