On August 21, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta was chairing a cabinet meeting at State House, where he stated that the government was working to ease the burden of cancer on Kenyans.
Deputy President William Ruto and several cabinet secretaries attended the memorial service for the late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso at All-Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, but the President was not present.
During the cabinet meeting, President Kenyatta led the team in a moment of silence in honor of Laboso and the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth, who both succumbed to cancer recently.
He acknowledged that cancer was becoming a crisis that needed urgent action, saying, “We need to see what more we can do to assist both in prevention but also in the treatment of the disease. And we need to do that as a Government together with the county governments.”
President Kenyatta also announced that Kenya had joined the league of oil-exporting countries, with the first deal concluded at a price of Ksh1.2 billion for 200,000 barrels of oil.
