Nyeri Town has been plagued by chaos in recent days, with increased animosity between Jubilee's Kielelweke and Tanga Tanga factions.

At the center of the chaos is Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, who has become a common denominator in all the disruptions.

On August 20, 2019, Wambugu posted on Facebook that he had met with his constituency project management committee members, who mandated him to tell off anyone visiting the town with a 2022 agenda.

"We also agreed that we will continue with our position as strong opponents of premature (2022) campaigns in our constituency due to their capacity to distract us from working for the people now. In fact I was mandated to tell off anyone - whoever they are - that will come to Nyeri Town with any 2022 agenda," he said.

The disruptions have been interpreted as a fight over 2022 politics between Jubilee party factions Kieleweke and Tangatanga.

Despite a warning by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i in early August against using youths to cause chaos, the goons have remained active, with backing from police and the MP.

Wambugu's sentiments came barely a week after he allegedly interrupted a meeting by the Inua Mama Jenga Taifa, a group allied to Tanga Tanga movement.

Another public rally turned chaotic in June after rowdy youths showed up at an event graced by Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri, accusing him of working hand in hand with Deputy President William Ruto contrary to their wishes.
