On August 21, 2019, Nairobi County introduced a new directive restricting matatus to a two-hour stay at the bus station near Afya Centre.

The move comes in response to concerns that Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) licensed to use the terminus have turned the stage into a garage, parking yard, car wash, and holding grounds for unlicensed vehicles.

Nairobi County Roads and Transport executive Hitan Majevdia warned that matatus operators who fail to comply with the new order will have their vehicles impounded.

“Notice is hereby given to all matatus that come into the grounds that they should leave within two hours, otherwise they will be impounded,” Majevdia said.

The executive explained that the two-hour limit aims to bring back sanity at the terminus, discourage overcrowding of vehicles, and decongest the station.
