Mwangi Kiunjuri, former Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, was removed from his position during President Uhuru Kenyatta's cabinet reshuffle on January 14, 2020, marking the sole personnel change in the government restructuring.
Kiunjuri addressed the media, stating he was not surprised by the decision. He expressed gratitude for his four years in the role, noting that agricultural production had increased under his tenure. 'I take this opportunity to thank him most sincerely for our friendship and the honour and privilege to have served in his government,' he said.
The former CS highlighted his experience working with President Uhuru Kenyatta since December 2015, emphasizing the 'immeasurable experience and exposure' gained. He acknowledged personal challenges, including 'a most difficult year' that tested his resolve, but maintained his commitment to public service.
'I have given my best to the assignments that I have been given and I am proud of my achievements,' Kiunjuri stated. He referenced a Gikuyu proverb about preparedness for life's uncertainties and affirmed his intention to continue serving Kenya in other capacities. 'I am not going anywhere,' he declared.
Kiunjuri also praised the new agricultural strategies announced during the reshuffle, stating they aligned with initiatives he had supported. He urged supporters to remain confident, asserting his resilience and commitment to 'independence, principled' work.
