On Tuesday, police in Siaya made a significant seizure, impounding sugar worth over Ksh.300,000 that was suspected to have been illegally imported from Uganda.
According to Siaya Sub-county Police Commander Justus Kucha, officers acting on a tip-off raided a shop where they found the sugar packed in 50kg and 25kg bags.
The police boss stated that it is believed the sugar was smuggled into the country from the neighboring country, and one suspect was arrested and detained at Siaya Police Station as investigations continue.
Mr. Kucha emphasized that the owner of the sugar would only be pardoned if he produced legal import documents, failure to which the goods would be treated as contraband and the suspect arraigned.
