Former Deputy President William Ruto's chief of staff, Marianne Kitany, has revealed that she first met Meru Senator Mithika Linturi in 2013 at Ruto's office.
Kitany, who is currently battling a divorce case with the senator, told the court that she was tasked to deal with Linturi's frequent complaints after the March 4, 2013 General Election.
She said that Linturi, who had successfully defended his Igembe South MP seat on a TNA Party ticket, would often visit Ruto's office with complaints.
Kitany's interactions with Linturi began in 2013, when she was tasked to persuade him to drop his Motion to impeach Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, who was battling a scandal over the Sh791 million National Youth Service (NYS) funds.
However, Kitany testified that she and Linturi had not yet developed a romantic relationship by May 2014, when he filed the impeachment Motion against Waiguru.
Linturi's impeachment Motion was eventually thrown out in mid-June 2014 due to a technicality, as he had failed to show up in Parliament to give notice.
Linturi claimed that he had acted out of respect for President Uhuru Kenyatta, who had prevailed upon him to drop the Motion.
Kitany and Linturi's relationship took a turn for the worse in December 2018, when Kitany filed for divorce, accusing the senator of infidelity, bigamy, and mistreatment.
Linturi, however, denied that he had ever exchanged wedding vows with Kitany, and claimed that she was only a 'visitor' who had gotten comfortable in his home.
