Published on August 20, 2019, a lawsuit was filed in state court by Kathryn Mayorga, accusing Cristiano Ronaldo of raping her after meeting on a night out in Las Vegas in 2009.

Despite Ronaldo's denial of the allegations, his lawyers have now acknowledged paying Mayorga £300,000 in a settlement to maintain the confidentiality of their dispute.

Mayorga's lawsuit alleges that Ronaldo and his legal team took advantage of her fragile emotional state, and she is seeking monetary damages of at least £165,000.

US District Judge Jennifer Dorsey ruled against Ronaldo's claim that a release of court records would have 'weaponised the allegations in this case,' and risked public scandal, harming his reputation and endorsements.

However, Judge Dorsey did rule that the 2010 settlement between Ronaldo and Mayorga will remain private, with the documents and direct quotes from them remaining sealed.
