Hayer One Youth Cricket League Kicks Off in Nairobi ¶
The Hayer One Youth Cricket League, a premier tournament for young cricketers, officially kicked off in Nairobi on August 20, 2019, with 34 teams participating in the Under-9, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, and Under-19 categories.
Among the participating teams is the Uganda under-19 cricket team, who are the defending champions and will be looking to retain their title. The team has been building on their success since 2018 and is expected to face stiff competition from other teams.
Speaking during the launch, Elizabeth Njambi from HayerOne expressed her excitement about the tournament, saying it's a great opportunity for Kenya to take cricket to another level. She praised the coaches and players who had decided to take part in the tourney, highlighting their courage, discipline, determination, and passion for the sport.
Star Field Sports, the organizers of the tournament, have formed a strategic partnership with Gary Kirsten Cricket (GKC) of South Africa. This partnership has enabled them to host a High Performance Coaching Camp with GKC in April 2019, which attracted 105 children.
According to Karan Kaul, the Director of Star Field Sports, the standard of the tournament is expected to be very high this year, especially after the successful High Performance Camp. He expressed confidence in the abilities of the participating teams and the coaches who will be guiding them throughout the tournament.
