On August 19, 2019, Gor Mahia defender Joash Onyango was feted at the Nairobi National Museum for his outstanding performance in the 2018-2019 season.

Onyango, who was also part of Kenya's Harambee Stars squad to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, insisted that winning the SJAK Player of the Year award does not mean he will shift his focus from helping the team win more trophies.

"I am not thinking about leaving Gor but I am taking this as a challenge, I owe this to the club and I want to stay and see Gor win many trophies," he said.

Onyango, who was awarded a cool Sh1 million, an LG 55-inch smart television, and a glittering trophy engraved with his name, also pocketed a further Sh250,000 for bagging the Defender of the Year award.

He beat his former teammate Francis Kahata and Ulinzi Stars striker Enosh Ochieng to win the award.

Gor Mahia was the biggest winner of the night, bagging four major trophies, including the Player of the Year award, Defender of the Year accolade, Midfielder of the Year award, and Coach of the Year award.
