On Tuesday morning, suspected Al-Shabab militants engaged in a shootout with National Police Reservists in Kheira village, Mandera County, leaving one person injured.

The injured man, Isaack Abdi Bulle, a madrasa teacher, sustained a bullet injury during the attack.

According to the area MCA, Ahmed Gabnan Ali, the phone mast in the locale was completely destroyed in the attack.

On August 14, 2019, the Islamist group attacked a Somali government base with car bombs and a shootout battle that saw both sides suffer multiple deaths.
