On Sunday, August 18, 2019, World Hope men's basketball team suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Eldonets in the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) league game at Nyayo Gymnasium.
Despite the loss, head coach George Namake remains optimistic about his team's chances of avoiding relegation, citing the team's new lineup as a major factor in their struggles.
'We are building a new team, basically half of our players are new but I have seen some improvements and I believe we shall register good results in the next games,' Namake said.
With eight matches left in the season, World Hope will need to work extremely hard to remain in the league, which is becoming increasingly competitive.
Meanwhile, Kisumu-based Lakeside team is also facing the threat of relegation after losing both of their matches in their away encounters in Nairobi.
Head coach John Ogilo has vowed to rectify their weak links, citing poor shot selection, turnovers, and lack of focus as major issues.
'We are too slow in recovery, we have bad shots and turnovers, we keep on losing focus in the second half allowing our opponents to control and punish us for that,' Ogilo bemoaned.
On a positive note, Thunder, last season's semi-finalists, are now top of the league after a convincing win over Blades, another semi-finalist from last season.
