Published on August 20, 2019, a Rwandan brewery faced backlash for printing sexist jokes on its beer labels.

Skol, one of Rwanda's most popular beers, featured a campaign with jokes that demeaned women, including 'When can a woman make you a millionaire?' The answer: 'When you are a billionaire.'

Twitter users were quick to condemn the #livelaughlager campaign, with one person tweeting, 'Sexist jokes are NOT funny...they perpetuate the narrative that women are less intelligent and capable than men!'

Juliette Karitanyi, a Twitter user, added that the jokes undermined the work of Rwandan women.

The minister of gender and family planning in Rwanda agreed, stating that such language was not acceptable in the country.

After facing criticism, the illustrator involved in the campaign apologized, saying the jokes did not align with his personal values.

Skol Rwanda brewery later apologized for any offense caused and announced that production of the jokes had been stopped.
