Citizen TV has fired journalist Jackie Maribe following an incident where she and 11 others took selfies with Dennis Itumbi inside a police cell at Muthaiga Police Station.

According to police, Itumbi and his friends held a party-like visit at the cells where they stayed until close to midnight, despite Itumbi being supposed to be inside a cell having been questioned at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu road.

The officers who were on duty that night are also under investigation after the OCS of the station was interdicted over the selfie.

As per the Police Act, Itumbi's selfie friends risk imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or a fine not exceeding Sh20,000 or both if found guilty of disorderly conduct inside a police building.

Maribe's actions have sparked controversy, given her previous defense of her employer, Royal Media Services, when she was charged with the murder of Monica Kimani in 2018.
