Published on August 20, 2019, the Kenya-Somalia maritime border row remains unresolved, with both nations unable to reach an amicable solution.

As a last resort, the Kenyan government is considering deploying military forces to Somalia to resolve the stalemate.

On Wednesday, Majority Leader Aden Duale and Minority Leader John Mbadi tabled a motion in the National Assembly seeking approval to use military force to resolve the border row.

The motion is now awaiting approval by Members of Parliament before the move can be implemented.

Despite efforts by the Kenyan side to settle the matter through diplomatic means, Somalia has remained adamant, and the two governments have failed to reach a consensus through a series of treaties.
