August 20, 2019, will be remembered as a tragic day for the music industry in Kenya, as the nation mourns the sudden and unexpected death of music icon John DeMathew.
According to eyewitnesses, DeMathew's car rammed into the back of a truck being driven by John Muregi Muendia, who was heading from Bamburi to Sagana.
Muendia, the first eyewitness, recounted the events leading up to the accident, saying, "On my way heading to Sagana, a car hit me from behind, the car belongs to someone called De Mathew. Good Samaritans came and removed him from the wreckage and rushed him to hospital. I stayed behind waiting for the traffic police."
Another eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, praised Peter Maina, a good Samaritan who went against all odds to ensure that DeMathew received medical attention.
"We had challenges with controlling the traffic for us to remove the victim from his pickup car for almost one hour," Maina said.
Despite the challenges, Maina's selfless act has been hailed as a heroic gesture, and he has been praised for his bravery and kindness.
