On August 20, 2019, Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris made headlines after criticizing Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati's office conditions.
During a function in Dagoretti Constituency, Passaris slammed Arati for having a poor office block that was not convenient for women to walk around.
"I am telling Simba Arati that his office is not for women. You should put slabs so that women can walk comfortably in high heels," Passaris claimed.
Passaris also expressed concern that the poor condition of the office floor was spoiling the expensive shoes of the women who attended the function.
Arati responded by faulting Passaris for choosing the wrong shoes, stating that the majority of people preferred to wear flat shoes.
However, Passaris quickly responded to Arati's sentiments, saying that the people had become accustomed to the poor state of the floors.
Despite the controversy, Passaris later proceeded to address the women, educating them on the importance of table banking.
She also vowed to collaborate with Arati's office to empower marginalized women from Dagoretti North through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).
Arati later posted on his Facebook page, stating that the initiative was aimed at empowering and increasing the economic standing of women in the constituency.
