On August 21, 2019, Senator Samson Cherargei was scheduled to report to the DCI offices in Nandi East, as per a summons issued by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday.

However, police officers surrounded the Senator's house in Nandi County on Tuesday morning, taking a drastic stance after attempts to reach him on phone were futile.

At around 10 o'clock, the Senator emerged from his house and climbed onto the police land rover that had been parked in front of his gate for most of the morning.

The DCI had asked Senator Cherargei to record a statement on remarks he made during a funeral in his county over the weekend, which were captured in a short clip circulated widely on social media.

The clip showed the Senator warning those who are anti-Deputy President William Ruto that they will regret opposing his 2022 presidential bid.
