On August 20, 2019, Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana addressed allegations of closed-door meetings with colleagues Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Alfred Mutua (Machakos) aimed at influencing the Kamba vote.
According to Governor Kibwana, these claims are false. He stated that he has never attended any closed-door meetings with his colleagues from Ukambani to discuss politics.
Instead, Governor Kibwana emphasized that he has been attending open meetings related to the development of the South Eastern Kenya Economic Block (SEKEB), which are held in public places.
Mr. Edward Mwendwa, Director of Governor Press Service - Makueni County, further clarified that Governor Kibwana has not endorsed William Ruto's candidature. In fact, Governor Kibwana has publicly announced his own bid for the presidency in 2022, a decision he made on his own volition.
