On August 19, 2019, Nelius Mukami, the wife of nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura, was arrested and charged with two traffic violations at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.
According to the charge sheet, Mukami was driving a Toyota Prado on a public road without insurance against third-party risk.
She pleaded guilty to the offenses, stating that she had forgotten her driving license at home.
Appearing before Milimani Traffic Court Magistrate Electer Rianyi, Mukami was ordered to pay a fine of Sh 20,000 or serve a four-month jail term for driving without insurance cover.
On the second count, she was ordered to pay a Sh1,000 fine or serve a one-month jail term.
Senator Mwaura caused a scene at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday afternoon when he arrived in haste to bail out his wife.
