Kenya's women beach volleyball team, consisting of Gaudencia Makokha and Naomi Too, is set to face Mozambique in the semi-finals of the African Games in Rabat, Morocco.

The Kenyan duo edged out Nigeria 2-1 (22-20, 19-21, 17-15) in the quarter-finals, securing a spot in the last four.

Coached by Patrick Owino, Kenya will be looking to dismiss Mozambique as continental rivals Egypt take on Mauritius in the other semi-final match.

Kenya's beach volleyball team has a history of success, having won a bronze medal at the inaugural Africa Beach Games in June and a third-place finish at the 2011 African Games in Maputo, Mozambique.

However, the team's hopes were dashed at the 2015 African Games in Brazzaville, Congo, where they failed to make it to the medal bracket.

Meanwhile, world steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech and former World champion Hyvin Kiyeng have opted out of the African Games, along with 800m specialist Emmanuel Korir, who was set to compete in the 400m event.

Korir has been replaced by 400m champion Alphas Kishoyian, who will now partner with Joseph Poghisio and US-based Raymond Bett.
