On August 19th, 2019, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) published a Gazette notice announcing the date for the Kibra constituency by-election. The election is set to take place on November 7th, 2019.

According to the notice, all parties have been directed to submit the names of their participants by August 26th, 2019. Independent candidates also have until August 26th to submit their names and symbols.

The commission has given public officers seven days to resign from their positions if they wish to contest the seat.

Reports indicate that Raila Odinga's former advisor, who lost the ODM party ticket, may throw his hat in the ring. The advisor recently crossed over to Musalia Mudavadi's Amani National Congress.

The stakes are high for the seat, which is in ODM's Kibra stronghold. A team of strategists is reportedly working on how to block any attempts by the party to impose a candidate.
