Uhuru Picks Lawyer Gershom Otachi as New National Lands Commission Chair

On Monday, President Kenyatta nominated lawyer Gershom Otachi as the new National Lands Commission (NLC) Chairperson, a position that has been vacant since February 2019.

Otachi, who has experience representing Kenyan suspects at the International Criminal Court (ICC), was picked from a group of 11 shortlisted candidates.

The nominees also included former Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) boss John Njiraini, land expert Dr. Mwenda Makathimo, and land surveyor Robert Kilimo, among others.

President Kenyatta also nominated nine members to the commission, including four women and five men, to serve alongside Otachi if approved by the National Assembly.
