Vivo Expands in Kenya with New Smartphone Models

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo is set to expand its presence in Kenya with the launch of two new models: the Vivo Y17 and the Vivo Y90. The devices have been approved by the Communications Authority (CA) and are expected to be priced lower than the Vivo Y15.

The Vivo Y90, unveiled in July 2019, is an entry-level device that should slot in below the Y15, offering users a range of cool specs and features for their money. The phone features a 6.22-inch HD+ display, a MediaTek Helio A22 SoC, 2GB RAM, 32GB expandable storage, an 8MP main camera, a 5MP front camera, and a 4030mAh battery.

Accompanying the Vivo Y90 will be the Vivo Y17, which has also been cleared for launch in the country as model number 1902. The Vivo Y17 features a 6.22-inch HD+ display, a MediaTek Helio A22 SoC, 3GB RAM, 32GB expandable storage, a 13MP main camera, a 5MP front camera, and a 5000mAh battery.

While Vivo has not confirmed the imminent arrival of the Y90 and Y17, the devices are expected to be priced lower than the Vivo Y15, which was launched in Kenya last week priced at Kshs 21,999. The exact pricing details for the Y90 and Y17 have not been revealed, but they are expected to sit either side of the Y15's asking price.

It's worth noting that the Vivo Y15 goes by the model number 1901, while the Vivo Y90 and Y17 have model numbers 1908 and 1902, respectively. This suggests that the three devices are part of a new series of Vivo smartphones that are set to be launched in Kenya.

As for when exactly the Y90 and Y17 will begin selling in Kenya, we can't say much. However, with the Communications Authority having already approved the devices, it's likely that they will be launched in the country soon.
