IEBC Sets Date for Kibra Constituency By-Election

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that the Kibra Constituency by-election will take place on November 7, 2019.

According to a gazette notice published on August 19, 2019, political parties intending to participate in the by-election must forward the names of their aspirants and the date of the party primaries on or before August 26, 2019.

Independent candidates are required to submit their names and symbol to IEBC on the same date.

Following the party primaries, political parties will be required to submit the name of the nominated candidate representing them on or before September 3, 2019.

Nomination papers will be submitted by candidates to the Returning Officer on September 9 and 10 between the hours of 8 am and 1 pm and between 2 pm and 4 pm.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has also announced that campaigns for the by-election will begin on September 9 and will run until November 4, 2019 between the hours of 7 am to 6 pm.

By October 23, all participating political parties and independent candidates will be required to submit the names of their constituency Election agents to IEBC.

The IEBC has also suspended the registration or revision of the voters register for the period running up to the by-election, which will be lifted on November 18, 2019.
