On August 19, 2019, Kenya Wildlife Service officials made a significant arrest at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). A Spanish national, Pich-Aguilera Maria, 50, was apprehended moments before her departure from Nairobi to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on a Precision Air flight.
According to the Kenya Wildlife Service, Maria was found in possession of an ivory bangle weighing a mere 0.025g. She will be arraigned at the JKIA Law Court, located at the Cargo Section near the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) head office.

Her arrest follows a similar incident involving a Frenchwoman, Laazibi Amal, who was fined Sh1 million after being arrested with an ivory bangle weighing 0.85 grams last week. In a separate case, a Chinese national, Zhang Ninighua, was arrested at JKIA last year with two elephant ivory bangles weighing 150gm, which were concealed inside her check-in bag.
