Safaricom Backs East African Safari Classic Rally with KES 13 Million

Published on August 19, 2019, Safaricom has pledged KES 13 million to support the ninth edition of the East African Safari Classic Rally under its M-PESA Global brand.

The rally, set to take place between November 27th and December 6th, 2019, will cover over 4,500 kilometres in Kenya and Tanzania over nine days.

According to Michael Joseph, acting CEO of Safaricom, the sponsorship aims to nurture talent through sport and empower customers through the M-PESA Global service.

‘Our sponsorship of this ninth edition of the East African Safari Classic Rally underlines our continued commitment to support and nurture talent through sport. With races in Kenya and Tanzania and a roster of drivers from around the world, the rally provides an opportunity to empower more customers through our M-PESA Global service,’ said Michael Joseph.

The East African Classic Safari Rally has been running every two years since 2003 and is open to two-wheel drive, naturally aspirated rally cars built before 1985.

Chairman of the East African Safari Classic Rally, Raju Kishinani, noted that this edition of the race features a more intense and exciting route than ever before.

‘The ninth edition of the East African Safari Classic Rally saw us evaluate more than 12,000 kilometres of roads resulting in an intense and exciting route selection for this year’s rally. We are glad to have M-PESA Global on board as our main sponsor as this will help us attract a wide range of local and global talent,’ Raju Kishinani said.
