On Sunday morning, a devastating scene unfolded in Makunga village, Trans Nzoia County, where a middle-aged man allegedly slashed his wife to death before hanging himself.
According to the area chief, Selina Upande, the couple, Stephen Kagumo and Caren Chebet, had never been known to have any public domestic disputes.
However, a neighbour, Kennedy Barasa, reported hearing a loud scream from the couple's house at around 3 am, prompting him and other residents to rush to the scene.
Upon breaking down the door, they found the woman lying in a pool of blood on the bed, while the husband had hung himself using a rope in another room.
The police took the bodies to the Kitale district referral hospital for further examination.
It is alleged that the incident occurred when the man returned home after watching a football match.
