On March 30, 2019, Raila Odinga met with Mostafa Terrab, the CEO of Morocco's OCP Group, in Rabat, Morocco, to seal a deal that would see the fertilizer plant set up in Kisumu, Kenya.

According to sources, OCP has already established fertilizer plants in several African nations, including South Africa, Tanzania, and Nigeria.

With the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) heading to Kisumu and the reclamation of Lake Victoria, Kenya is poised to become a major hub for fertilizer exports to East and Central Africa.

Notably, OCP temporarily suspended its operations in Kenya in June 2018 after being accused of delivering substandard fertilizers to the country. The company vehemently denied the allegations and invited investigative agencies to investigate the claims.
