On a Sunday in Meru County, Deputy President William Ruto made it clear that he is ready to compete with Raila Odinga for the presidency in 2022.

Speaking during a prayer service, Dr. Ruto emphasized that Raila must be prepared to accept defeat if he loses the election.

"I have heard that he has announced his intention to compete with me in 2022. I have no issue competing with him, but he must first assure Kenyans that in case of defeat, he will accept the decision of the voters," Dr. Ruto said.

He added that Raila must also commit to not causing chaos if he loses the election.

Dr. Ruto's statement comes in response to media reports that Raila Odinga has expressed interest in the 2022 presidential race.

However, Raila Odinga has denied these reports, calling them "reckless, irresponsible, and cheap journalism".

"Raila Odinga strongly objects to reports appearing in the Sunday Nation today that put him in a presidential race he has not declared any interest in and which does not exist currently," said Dennis Onyango, Raila's spokesperson.

Dr. Ruto, on the other hand, remains focused on delivering the Jubilee development agenda and realizing the Big Four agenda.
