With the seventh edition of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (Kicosca) games now in the books, the focus has shifted to the East African Local Authorities Sports and Cultural Association competition, set to take place in Kampala in December.

The regional games were last held two years ago, but organisational challenges forced their cancellation last year, with Uganda unable to host the event at the last minute.

However, a delegation from Uganda attended the closing ceremony in Kericho County, indicating the country's readiness to host the upcoming games.

According to Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, who is also the Council of Governors' sports departmental committee chairman, the teams that will represent Kenya in the regional competition are up to the task.

During the Kicosca games, Nairobi and Uasin Gishu counties flexed their muscle, with three politicians participating in various sports events.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, a member of his county's volleyball team, was disappointed that he couldn't play in the final due to heavy rainfall disrupting the match.

Meanwhile, Governor Chepkwony emerged as the best darts player, earning a reward from Deputy President William Ruto.

Former assistant minister Langat Magerer also steered Kericho's men handball team to victory.

However, the players faced financial challenges, with most counties failing to remit salaries and allowances due to a cash crunch. As a result, many players had to use their own money for food and accommodation, with only 37 counties in attendance.
