Published on August 19, 2019, the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (Kicosca) and County Assemblies Sports Association (Kecoso) Games highlighted the country's sports infrastructure woes.

Defending football champions Machakos failed to participate in the games due to financial constraints, a stark reminder of the challenges faced by many counties in supporting their athletes.

Despite having huge budgets allocated for sports, few counties have utilized these funds effectively, leaving many facilities in a deplorable state.

Transparency and accountability are crucial in ensuring that sports projects are completed on time and that funds are put to good use.

Deputy President William Ruto's promise to build new stadia and sports academies in all counties remains unfulfilled, with the Jubilee government yet to honor its pledge made in 2013.

Athletes have struggled to find suitable training facilities, particularly in Eldoret and Iten, where the Kamariny Stadium and Kipchoge Keino Stadium are in dire need of renovation.

The Kecoso Games showcased emerging talent, including World Under-20 5,000 meters champion Beatrice Chebet, but also exposed the country's poor sports facilities and infrastructure.
