On August 18, 2019, a tragic road accident took the life of legendary Kikuyu musician John De Mathew.
According to eyewitnesses, De Mathew's car hit a truck from behind near Blue Post along Thika Road.
The truck driver, John Muregi Muendia, was heading to Sagana from Bamburi, Arthi River at the time of the accident.
Speaking to the press, Muendia recounted the events leading up to the accident:
"On my way heading to Sagana, a car hit me from behind, the car belongs to someone called De Mathew. Good samaritans came and removed him from the wreckage and rushed him to hospital. I stayed behind waiting for the traffic police."
De Mathew was pronounced dead on arrival at Thika Nursing Home.
