Published on August 18, 2019, Nairobi's Kibra Constituency is gearing up for a fierce battle as various aspirants prepare to contest for the area parliamentary seat.

Following the death of MP Ken Okoth on July 26, 2019, the seat has fallen vacant, and over 20 ODM Party aspirants from Kibra constituency have already expressed interest in the seat.

On Sunday, the aspirants convened a meeting at Kamukunji grounds in Kibra to chart a way forward on how to win the seat amid speculation that the ODM party could impose a candidate on the electorates.

The group has vowed to reject any such attempt by the ODM Party, insisting that the preferred candidate should be a resident of Kibra constituency.

According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the by-election is expected to be held within three months of the issuance of the notice by the Speaker, which was declared last week by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.
