On August 18, 2019, a devastating suicide bombing shook the Afghan capital, leaving a trail of death and destruction in its wake.
A packed wedding reception in Kabul's west was the target of the attack, which killed 63 people and injured 182 others, according to the interior ministry.
The Taliban, who have been engaged in peace talks with the United States, denied responsibility for the blast and condemned the attack, calling it 'barbaric.'
President Ashraf Ghani was quick to condemn the attack, saying that the militants could not escape blame for the 'heinous' act.
The attack came as the Taliban and the United States were negotiating an agreement on the withdrawal of U.S. forces in exchange for a Taliban commitment on security and peace talks with Afghanistan's U.S.-backed government.
