As the national census approaches, leaders in Murang'a County are urging their constituents to participate in the exercise to avoid potential consequences, including the merging of two constituencies.

Senator Irungu Kang'ata, MPs Muturi Kigano (Kangema) and Peter Kimari (Mathioya) have separately appealed to residents in other parts of the country to travel back home for the census.

According to MP Kimari, mobilization measures have been taken to ensure participation, and he has asked parents in Mathioya to provide details of their children and grandchildren living outside the constituency to the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KNBS) officials.

“All leaders and parents have been sensitized over the importance of the exercise, thus need for the locals to submit all information to the enumerators,” MP Kimari said from Geneva.

Senator Kang'ata has also pledged to provide transport to ensure Murang'a people are counted at home, emphasizing that the future of the two constituencies hangs in the balance due to low population.

“We are concerned. The future of the two constituencies hangs in the balance due to low population as they will likely be merged,” Senator Kang'ata said.

Murang'a County Commissioner Mohammed Barre has assured that all measures have been taken to train personnel involved in the exercise, and he is hopeful that the people of Murang'a will fully participate in the national census.

“All systems are set for the exercise. We hope the people of Murang'a will fully participate in the crucial national exercise,” Commissioner Barre said.
