On August 18, 2019, Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali was involved in a car crash while traveling from Kakamega to Nairobi.
According to reports, Shinali's Land Cruiser was hit by a matatu at Lessos along the Kapsabet-Mau Summit Road early on Sunday morning.
Fortunately, the MP and the four other occupants of the vehicle escaped unhurt and were able to continue their journey after recording statements with the police.
Shinali was traveling to Nairobi to attend to personal matters after burying his son Chris Masakah, a US Marine who drowned in Arizona, US on July 26, 2019.

When contacted, the MP confirmed that he and the other occupants of the vehicle were safe and sound.
